Faux Taxidermy...

On a roll, testing out the patterns I drew up. The deer head just needed a little adjustment here and there. I am pleased with this one. He will have a second antler, shortly (cannot believe I ran out of stuffing). You never really know how darts and gussets are going to work until the piece is made up, and stuffed. A good amount of time is spent un-stuffing, resewing and stuffing again, until it looks right. It is a learning experience and each pattern is better than the last.

After the second antler is sewn on, it will be time to decide on the finish, I can't make up my mind. It is nice as the natural canvas, but eyes and nose will need to be added as well. Any suggestions? Definitely will be making more of these deer!

The bunny head worked perfectly first time and it is small and sweet. I can see it in a baby's nursery or older child's room. Frankly, I would hang it up in my room, but I am quirky that way. I will post some pictures after it is ready for hanging. I hope you are enjoying your weekend!

Recycling jars...

Here are a few of the jars I have been crocheting over. I use them in my studio and elsewhere to store all the little things in my life. A few in this grouping can be used as vases... or perhaps for paint brushes or knitting needles. I love to display my handmade knitting needles, especially. The pinkish one is made from hand spun wool  and has a "t-shirt flower" adorning the crocheted lid. This is particularly nice in the bathroom to hold cotton balls. The other lidded one is made of hand spun flax/linen, it has a basket feel, it is tied up with vintage, MOP button, seam binding and lace.

The "bear" jar holds my extra bobbins at my sewing table...and just above it is my tongue in cheek,
"dress form" Pace salsa jar...I am hopelessly addicted to covering jars. I hope to be participating in an urban art and craft show in April, so I will be bringing several of these along with me. There are several interesting shapes and sizes that I am working on and I really like them. What do you think?

Finally finished drafting up the rest of my patterns, so I will be busy for the next few weeks with my animals. Next up will be the mixed media pieces, that are currently in my head and sketched out on paper. What have you been up to lately?I would love to hear about it!

On my work table today...

le maigre liévre

Anyone who knows me, knows that I love animals, especially rabbits and hares. There is rabbit toile wallpaper in my powder room, which gives me insane license to put my papier mache ones in there.
I really didn't need any excuse to make up a pattern and sew this one, along with a few friends.
Le maigre liévre (the skinny hare) is not finished yet, but I am  in love with his imperfect little self. No realism here, just all personality. Outrageously large ears and legs, very large MOP button joints.
Since I was in a pattern making mood, I thought I'd create a deer head as well...still working out the antlers material. Clearly, I needed the break from all the knitting and crocheting I have been doing.
I will post my progress as I go...I have had a request for a wolf, we'll see!
